How to make Forging tongs without tongs
A Collaboration with
Stuart Hill Blacksmithing
Our first workshop of the year will be in late February, or early March. Starting with a weekend of two — one day/ 4 hour workshops. Participants will learn basic forging techniques to build the tool every smith uses — without the very tool itself — a forging tong.
A strong craft background is required, applications will be open once we hammer down some dates. Students are encouraged to send images of their work and a brief summery of their experience and or art/ craft practice. Be sure to check back next week. Late February or early March, this will be a satellite workshop held in Velarde, NM.
18+, Strong craft background, 4 hr/ $125 session.
Since 1998, Stuart Hill has been a provider of custom forged and fabricated metalwork to architects, designers, and contractors throughout the Rocky Mountain region. Paintings and Sculpture
April 24th- May 2023
We’re thrilled to get our residency program kicked off is spring! Very honored to have Tara K Daly come out fresh from Anderson Ranch, we’ve known Tara for quite some time and we’re always intrigued and excited by each new direction of research in her work.
Daly’s sculptural works are often monochrome pigmented ceramics drawing from the classical canon or the devastating storms of the anthropocene. In contrast recent two dimensional works explore the interior quite colorfully.

Past Alluvial engagements :
-
The why
Making art can be a solitary endeavor, especially for stone sculptors. The aim is a forum for expression, a tabula rasa, a free space. Alluvial favors fostering paths for artistic inclusion and vision, the artist being integral to the curation and production of each event.
-
Projects
Alluvial is: exhibitions, residencies, workshops, screenings, skillshares, and a project work space. Beyond our curatorial efforts, Alluvial may be available for your ideas and best intentions.
-
Collective
For our inaugural 2022-2023 season we are: Brian Barreto, Schuyler Blanchard, Alma De Luna, Ray McClellan, and Sam Sieger.
