Eli Levin — Political and Pandemic Paintings Saturday July 2nd, 2022 3-6PM
2221 NM 68 Rinconada, NM 87531. Curated by Brian Barreto and Eli Levin
Alluvial has invited Eli Levin to exhibit his recent political and pandemic paintings for our inaugural show. Eli has a celebrated history in New Mexico, long active in the Santa Fe printing, painting, and life drawing circles, he was one of the first artists to build an art studio in Dixon, making and stacking each adobe block at the end of the road in Apodaca. Alongside his Intaglio monochromes, Eli works in color using egg tempera which he mixes from dry pigments in small amounts. The result is a fresh and vivid surface akin to fresco, each stroke in evidence. Already an admirer of his political works, I was especially struck by his recent paintings which deal with the pandemic, I’m so glad he’s sharing them. Eli has also recently finished a 2 year project painting homes throughout Dixon. The images have been collected into two volumes, be sure to grab one (or both) while they are still available.

The why
Making art can be a solitary endeavor, especially for stone sculptors. The aim is a forum for expression, a tabula rasa, a free space. Alluvial favors fostering paths for artistic inclusion and vision, the artist being integral to the curation and production of each event.
